Day Two: Advent calls us to contemplate God's Hope declared (Genesis 22:16-18)

(Abraham and Sarah)
Day Two: Advent calls us to contemplate God's Hope declared

Genesis 22:16-18 "By myself I have sworn, says the LORD: Because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of their enemies, and by your offspring shall all the nations of the earth gain blessing for themselves, because you have obeyed my voice."

In the great flood God had done a "soft reset" of creation - yet sin persisted in us. God then unveiled in His covenant His intention to redeem and restore His people to right relationship with Him. In covenant God promised His ultimate blessing - salvation. All people would be blessed in the Descendant of a "barren" couple, Sarai and Abram. God fulfilled this covenant through and in Christ. In Jesus all people of every nations can receive God's ultimate desire for us - restoration to right relationship with Him. In covenant our faithful God proclaimed this Hope for all of us who stand hopeless apart from Him. Then as now, God's hope points us to our Christ. As we enter Advent we contemplate God's Hope and we ask: will we accept and receive God's Hope and seek after the Christ of Christmas at all times, in all places and under all circumstances?

Romans 12:12 "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."
